Miri Nakamura, CMT, PhD
I am a Certified Massage Therapist who specializes in Craniosacral Therapy, Hot Stones, and Lomilomi. I received my massage certification at the McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland, CA in 2010 and have trained with an amazing group of teachers all over the world.
I am especially passionate about women's health. I began my journey at the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic in downtown Oakland, a volunteer-run clinic for low-income women with cancer, where I still volunteer monthly. I travel around the world to connect with women's collectives and with sanctuaries that offer a safe haven for women. I have worked for women's retreats in Costa Rica, taught massage classes to female therapists in Nicaragua, and I am currently deepening my understanding of prenatal and postnatal bodies by studying Mayan Abdominal Massage with midwives in Guatemala. As a former professor of Gender Studies and East Asian Studies, I advocate the inclusion and acceptance of all gender and racial identifications and try to create a safe space for all bodies on my table.
